KЄ ROH...TⲰ CⲰ Nimbate facing bust of St. Michael, holding scepter in his right hand. Rev. IⲰ ANΘVΠA[T]/PIK, KAI ΔPO/VΓAPOV THC RI / TΛVCTOVM/OΔOXH in five lines. Unpublished in the standard references. An attractive Byzantine seal of provincial workmanship. About very fine.

The 'vigla' or 'watch' was one of the imperial 'tagmata', regiments of elite troops which numbered up to 4000 men. As droungarios, Johannes was the commander of the 'watch'
